Global Diplomacy: Cameroon Active at the 153rd IPU General Assembly in Tanzania

The National Assembly of Cameroon is taking a prominent role in the proceedings of the 153rd Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU) General Assembly, hosted by the Parliament of the United Republic of Tanzania.

Headed by MP Emma ETOUNDI Vincent De Paul, the Cameroonian delegation is engaging in high-level multilateral discussions. Cameroonian lawmakers are participating in committee sessions and contributing to strategic caucuses, including the African Geopolitical Group, the Francophone Parliamentary Caucus, and the Non-Aligned Movement.

Addressing Climate Urgence and Maternal Health

A major highlight of the summit is the discussion on climate change and its severe environmental and socio-economic fallout. This emergency debate underscores the growing urgency among global legislative bodies to protect sustainable development and local populations.

In parallel, the delegation is contributing to a high-level initiative hosted by the African Geopolitical Group regarding healthcare governance. Titled “African Parliamentary Action towards the Three Zeros in Reproductive, Maternal, Newborn and Child Health,” this session focuses on passing legislative measures to curb preventable maternal and infant mortality across the continent.

Transition in IPU Leadership

Delegates are also participating in the election of the next President of the Inter-Parliamentary Union, who will succeed Honourable Tulia Ackson following her tenure as the 31st leader of the global organization.

Through its participation, Cameroon reinforces its commitment to parliamentary diplomacy, regional cooperation, environmental protection, and public health advancement.
